LIFE CHANGING WHALE ENCOUNTERS
San Ignacio Lagoon is the last refuge from Civilization where Gray Whales actively seek out human interaction year after year.
PROUD AMBASSADORS OF THE GRAY WHALES AT SAN IGNACIO LAGOON SINCE 1992
2010 to 2022
We are consistently rated the #1 Travelers Choice on Trip Advisor year after year for one reason — our caring and eco-conscious staff and owners who are full time residents of the lagoon who have a proud history of environmentalism at a time and place where environmentalism was not a popular alternative to a life of full-time fishing. Now with four generations of family living and working in the lagoon as boat and camp owners, our staff can lead a prosperous life in tourism while protecting the lagoon they live in and love.

We take pride in the grand responsibility that we hold as Ambassadors to the Gray Whales and their last undeveloped and untouched lagoon that is home to these gentle giants and the many other wildlife residents.

WORLDS LONGEST MARINE MAMMAL MIGRATION TO THE REMOTE LAGOONS OF BAJA, SUR, MEXICO
San Ignacio Lagoon in Baja Sur, Mexico is the last wildlife refuge from civilization for Migrating Gray Whales and home to a huge variety of aquatic, terrestrial and winged species. It remains one of the remotest and undisturbed locations in North America where wildlife abounds.

San Ignacio Lagoon is the remotest of the three Gray Whale breeding lagoons in Mexico and undisturbed by human intervention with no towns or large populations.

This Gray Whale Sanctuary is located in the heart of Mexico’s largest protected area, El Vizcaino Biospherre Reserve, this is Mexico’s largest protected area in the entire country. Gray Whales have migrated here for thousands of years for the protection of the shallow water lagoons.
A REMOTE HIDEAWAY FROM CIVILIZATION
THE MOST EXTRAORDINARY WHALE PETTING ENCOUNTER
Perhaps the most life altering wildlife encounter on the planet can be found at San Ignacio Lagoon, where 40 ton Gray Whales and their newborn calves display an unbelievable curiosity to meet people up close and personal in the protection of their birthing lagoon.

Mother Gray whales approach our boats and encourage humans to scratch, pet and sing to them and their newly born calves. Over the years, this has become a regular occurrence only at San Ignacio Lagoon.
